Polly is your typical sweet li'l ol' lady, she came to us when her owner had reached the end of any money to feed her, and had to give her up. Polly has settled in and feels comfortable here, though she mostly sleeps and dreams of her younger years. She would do well in a home with another older person who could dote on her.

Polly is about 13 years old, and weighs just about that many pounds. She needs eye medications, and love and attention. If someone would like to foster Polly please contact us.

Lucie (Lucinda Sniffles is her full name...she probably came in many years ago with some sort of cold.) Her birthday is 8/1/00, so she just turned eleven. She weighs 16 lbs. She is an all black shih tzu/poodle mix. She came to us I think from the Trenton Animal Shelter in 2002, and was adopted out sometime that year. She stayed with the adoptive family for 9 years, coming back to us in 2010. The reason for her return was because of constant vomiting and stomach upsets. She is an "ingester": she will eat toys, pens, paper, rags, clothing, toys, anything and everything. These are items that could harm her stomach, but the family's home had been thoroughly Lucinda proofed, and there was no ingested material causing a problem. Though the family was very saddend about returning her, our assuring them that she was problem-free here was of no avail. "The house smells of vomit."

We've seen absolutely none of that since she has been back here. She is maintained on a bland diet and physically is doing very well. I suspect there was some component in the family's cleaning setup, carpet cleaner or some such, that was upsetting to Lucinda, but I couldn't convince them of that.

Meanwhile Lucinda, after 9 pampered years, has become very depressed, and has not gotten over being "dumped" back with us. We do our best to console her, but she keeps to herself and, I think, just mopes about not having her own person again. She's been to the vet many times because of this moping, but there is nothing physically wrong with her. She would love to be someone's loving pet again, so please consider giving her a new home in her golden years. BUT YOU WOULD HAVE TO LUCINDA-PROOF THE HOUSE...THE SPECIAL NEEDS ARE NO TOYS OR OTHER ITEMS LYING AROUND THAT SHE COULD INGEST.

The previous owner stated: "Lucy is a very longing, sweet dog. She is very gentle, except when she plays, then she growls sometimes but does not bite. She loves to rub feet. She loves getting belly rubs, back scratches and butt scratches. She loves children and other dogs. She is completely house trained and likes to sleep in a crate. She follows directions easily. She is a wonderful dog. If it weren't for her health issues, we would not have let her go."
Blondie is a small, buff colored shih tzu/Maltese mix, who was found as a stray in Brooklyn, and came to us from the NYC Mayor's Alliance. (Yes, he is a male, even with the name Blondie.) He is about 10 years old. He is neutered, up-to-date with shots, and microchipped. He has nuclear sclerosis, so his vision is limited, but not his sweetness. He was very frightened and timid when he came in, and quite thin, but with TLC and lots of attention he is warming up and showing a good deal of charm. He will be special needs because of his vision, but he will make someone a loving pet.
Dash has come to us from a commercial breeder, where he was supposed to father puppies. He still doesn't know how to be a dog, how to play with toys, how to wag his tail, how to accept attention from people. But he is now getting along with the other dogs and has been integrated with them.

Dash is 3 to 4 years old, neutered, and up-to-date on shots. He as been Lyme and heartworm tested. He will eventually be a beautiful Bichonpoo (or poochon), whatever we should call these "designer dogs." but he would do best with a big brother or big sister in his new home, to help him learn the ropes, including house training.
Tyson Doxie came to us from NYC, where he was an owner surrender, because of "no time." He is a handsome and unsual mix, dachshund/field spaniel, 9 years old, and weighs 24 lbs. He was very fearful, understandably so, when he came in, but not really bad, and now you'd think he owned the place, he has become so confident, and even bossy at times. He is handsome, with long flowing hair. He is up-to-date on shots, and microchipped.

Tyson does need surgery for a tumor that we removed but it may recur for it could not be entirely resected without a specialist's intervention. We would welcome sponsors to help us get him to surgery before it is too late!
Jasonee, pronounced 'Jasonay'...she was found by the side of a freeway somewhere in the City, and for some strange reason they called her Jason at the NYC shelter from when she came to us. It seemed odd to call a female dog Jason, so we sort of 'frenchified' the name as Jasone. When she was found in NYC and when she came in to us she was paralyzed and could not move her hind legs...there was no sign of injury, and a good deal of muscle wasting in those legs, so it was thought by the veterinarians and neurologists we saw that it had been the result of an old injury, perhaps hit by a car, perhaps kicked, who knows. They complimented us on the good nursing care we were giving her, and thought she would be this way forever. But lo! She has started standing up and even walking, sometimes as much as 50 feet. She could probably walk more, but she gets in a hurry, and outruns her legs' abilities, and starts dragging the hind quarters again. She was getting physiotherapy in our swimming pool during the summer, and that helped immensely too...we'll probably now have to move indoors to the bath to help her keep up her progress. It is great to see how much she has improved. She's a real trooper and wishes she could keep up with the rest of the dogs when they run off somewhere, but she's still pretty fast.
Chelsea is a Yorkshire terrier who came to us from the Mayor's Alliance,, New York City. She is about 10 years old. She was apparently abandoned and a stray. At Animal Care and Control she was examined, treated, groomed, for she was very matted. She was mildly dehydrated and her eyes all crusty, and severely flea infested. All that was taken care of, and she is much better now when she came to us.

Chelsea 2 is a very friendly gal, white and brown in color, perhaps a mix with some sort of terrier. She has all her shots, is microchipped, and has been tested for Lyme and heartworm. She was thought to be intact, but there is a possible spay scar. She is doing well here, but would like to be in a home again. She weighs 12.5 lbs. She is lively, alert, and friendly, but somewhat bewildered about all the changes in her life. A new home would make her much happier, with someone to care for and to care for her.
Sam is an older poodle but still very active and alert. He is creamy white in color. He has cataracts, and we would hope eventually for corrective surgery if we can find donors willing to help him.. He is very sweet and gentle, and very people oriented. We worried about diabetes at first, but he's not diabetic, and the cataracts are genetic and could be removed by surgery, Sam gets around amazingly well very loving a real sweetheart of a dog. Sam really needs a forever home to spend his golden years in with someone to love him - you could be that person!
